This picture didn't turn out exactly like I wanted it to. I still think it's pretty cool, but evidently there's a little more to learn about how to do this shot.
I wanted to catch the action of the colored pencil breaking when I was pressing it down. It was kind of hard to get the pencil focused while smashing the pencil. I kept moving the pencil while pressing it down. Evidently these were the strongest pencils in the world.
I was pretty pleased with the little fragments that shot off from the pencil in the shot. I didn't notice those in the camera, but that's what I was trying to do, only more clearly. I think I needed a higher shutter speed, but evidently my external flash only syncs at a 200th of a second.
Anyway, I want to try this shot again and try to get the fragments a little better, but not too bad for Day 2.
EXIF info:
f 3.5
1/200 second
ISO 800
focal length 100mm, macro
tokina 100mm f2.8 lens for canon
flash on, fired, ettl
What would I do different? I think I need to figure out how to use the flash a little better so that I can get those shots at higher shutter speeds. Also, maybe try to find easier-to-break pencils? :)
very cool idea.
ReplyDeleteVery cool...a bunch of different ones of these would look cool in an office or in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what colors and sizes you want and I'll get on it!
